How do I know if I am a Microbusiness?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Ofgem defines microbusinesses using a few key criteria. You’ll fall into this category if any of the following apply:

  • You have fewer than 10 employees (or equivalent full-time staff) and an annual turnover or balance sheet total of £2 million or less, or

  • You use no more than 100,000 kWh of electricity per year, or

  • You use no more than 293,000 kWh of gas per year.

As a microbusiness, you can get free, independent advice from Citizens Advice (or Citizens Advice Scotland) and access support through the Energy Ombudsman if you need it.

If you’re not sure whether you are a microbusiness, reach out to us at [email protected], and the team can help.
