Why do my Nuclear RAB billable units look different to my day/night rate usage?

Only applicable for customers with Nuclear RAB as a passthrough charge.

From May 2026, we changed the way Nuclear RAB is calculated on your bill. Your billable units for this charge will look different to your metered day/night usage - and that's expected. Nothing has changed in what you pay.

Why does the Nuclear RAB unit rate now look different to previous bills?

Previously, we calculated Nuclear RAB against the metered volume – the electricity consumption recorded at the meter. We adjusted the unit rate each month to account for energy lost in transmission before it reaches the meter.

These losses form part of the Nuclear RAB charge calculation. Because they were accounted for in the unit rate, it varied month to month and didn't match the industry-published rate – which we appreciate caused confusion.

From May, we calculate Nuclear RAB against a volume that already includes transmission losses (known in the industry as the Notional Balancing Point volume).

The unit rate now stays consistent and matches the published rate exactly - making it easier to check, forecast, and plan against. The overall cost doesn’t change as a result of this calculation – the uplift is just applied to the volume instead of the unit rate.

Why don't my Nuclear RAB billable units add up to my day/night rate usage?

Your day and night rate usage reflects your metered consumption - the electricity recorded at your meter. Nuclear RAB billable units are now calculated against a volume that includes transmission losses, so the two figures are worked out differently and won't match exactly.

Has my total Nuclear RAB charge changed as a result of the calculation change?

No. The change is to how the charge is calculated and presented, not what you pay. Both methods arrive at the same total cost - we've just made it easier to see exactly what you're being charged and why.

Did the Nuclear RAB levy increase in April?

Yes, the Nuclear RAB levy changes quarterly. It is set by the LCCC and is updated on a quarterly basis. The Nuclear RAB increase was implemented from 1 April 2026.

The unit rate on my bill doesn't match previous months - is that an error?

No. Before May 2026, the rate varied each month because it was adjusted to account for transmission losses against metered consumption. From May, the rate reflects the published industry rate and will stay consistent month to month.
